Civil Defence - Movie About Area Suraksha Mitra The Kannu Teri Bengaluru campaign is an initiative to expand the Civil Defence and use citizen power to create safe neighborhoods by appointing Area Suraksha Mitras. News & Events Civil Defence Division 9 Launch - Rajaji Nagar The Civil Defence and its volunteers will not attempt to step into the police forces shoes. They will serves as extra hands, eyes, and ears to the police in times of peace and emergency. Area Suraksha Mitras (ASMs) are citizen security representatives from local communities. Typically, an ASM “area” corresponds to a polling booth, i.e., it comprises of 3-4 streets and approximately 1200 residents. The roles and responsibilities for the Area Suraksha Mitras (also known as Wardens) will include: Establishing working relationships with the local police authorities to share area information at an agreed upon frequency, report proactively on suspicious objects and people as well as any untoward incidents that occur in your area, attend periodic mock drills, give general advice on Civil Defence to your area’s residents, and help recruit volunteers for Civil Defence forces among others. About Janaagraha: Janaagraha is a non-profit organization that works to improve the quality of life in India’s cities and towns. Janaagraha is facilitating revitalisation of the Civil Defence by providing support for mobilisation, training, technology, and deployment and coordinating with all the stakeholders in this intitiative (Civil Defence, police, those who provide funds, technical support, etc.). In consultations with the police and CD, Janaagraha has facilitated the designing of the organisational structure of the ASM programme, demarcating the CD divisions and the ‘areas’ for the ASMs. |
