Girinagar, named after the former Indian president V.V.Giri, is a residential area in South West Bangalore and is part of the larger residential locality Banashankari
The area is famous for its hilly terrain and is divided into 4 phases. Grinagar is also famous for its numerous temples such as Avadootha Datta Peetham(Karyasiddhi Anjaneya Temple), Shree Ramachandrapura Matha, Sri Vasavi Kanyakaparameshwari Temple, Sri Shirdi Sai Baba Temple, Sringeri Mutt, Sri Raghavendra Mutt etc. A Sanskrit school, Aksharam, is also located here.
Many good schools such as Auden Public School, Little Flower Public School etc. are located in the vicinity.
Girinagar has a famous hill, Veeranna Gutte or Hirannaya Gudda, which offers a panoramic view of Bangalore city. It also has two large parks, Avalahalli BDA Park and Vivekananda Park, having a statue of Swami Vivekananda.
