Bangalore in the days of yore, Cottonpet was a thriving wholesale business centre for cotton textiles. old timers in the area say this was originally a little town built inside the mud fort of Kempe Gowda along with the towns of Balepet and Chickpet, besides Kannada, several other south indian languages are spoken here. Paper marts, Agarbatti factories, cloth mills and grain bazaars dot the ward. Unique for its old houses which are over 150 years old. in the interior of Cottonpet, some even have the traditional courtyard with a swing and antique idols. Almost 25 percent of the area comprises old houses. many of the mills that remain have looms that are decades old and are in working condition. Another specialty is the number of old style gyms or Garadis and wrestling parlors. it is also famous for its ancient temples like the Lakshmi Narayana temple, Basavanna temple, Eshwara temple, Veerabhadra temple, and the Adinarayangudi temple. There are three churches in the area and a mosque near Nalabandi road. The Grain bazaar or Akkipet is one of the largest rice mandis in the city. The main roads are Cottonpet main road, Police road, Akkipet road, Magadi road, and part of Sultanpet. There are at least 75-80 small roads. most of the roads are only between 8-12 feet.
