JJR Nagar or Jagjivan Ram Nagar is named after Babu Jagjivan Ram.
In the early days of Bangalore, Cottonpet was a thriving wholesale business centre for cotton textiles. Originally it was a little town built inside the mud fort of Kempe Gowda along with the towns of Balepet and Chickpet. Besides Kannada, several other south Indian languages are spoken here. Paper marts, Agarbatti factories, cloth mills and grain bazaars abound in the area. Many of the mills that remain have looms that are decades old and are in working condition. Many of the wholesale markets have been replaced by business areas, but it continues to be a major commercial centre of the city. Almost 25 percent of the area comprises old houses, some over 150 years old, with the traditional courtyard with a swing and antique idols. Another specialty of Cottonpet is the number of traditional gyms or Garadis and wrestling parlours. It is also famous for its ancient temples like the Lakshmi Narayana temple, Basavanna temple, Eshwara temple, Veerabhadra temple, and the Adinarayangudi temple. There are three churches in the area and a mosque near Nalabandi road. The Grain bazaar or Akkipet is one of the largest rice mandis in the city. The main roads are Cottonpet main road, Police road, Akkipet road, Magadi road, and part of Sultanpet. =====================================================================
